Jimmie Durham est un artiste et essayiste très influent. Sa pratique variée s’adresse à un très large public. Elle est également d’une source d’inspiration cruciale pour bon nombre d’artistes, commissaires d’expositions et théoriciens, et notamment de la jeune génération. Durham ne fait de « l’art pour l’art », mais crée des œuvres ouvertes au monde au-delà de l’art – et pour cela toujours significatives, toujours surprenantes.
