Paul De Vree

Geboren in Antwerp (BE), overleden in Antwerp (BE).
Paul De Vree (1909–1982, België) is een pionier op het gebied van Europese concrete poëzie en een beeldend kunstenaar. Hij richt literaire tijdschriften op als 'De Tafelronde' (1953–1982), en 'Lotta poetica' (1971–1975), in samenwerking met de Italiaanse dichter Sarenco. De Vrees werk bestaat achtereenvolgens uit typografische composities, audiovisuele evenementen, kritiek op de massamedia en poëtisch en politiek gebruik van fotografische beelden. Met zijn Italiaanse collega’s werkt hij Poesia visiva (‘visuele poëzie’) uit, een beweging die zowel ‘het visuele’ als ‘het visionaire’ activeerde. De Vrees werken uit zijn latere periode weerspiegelen zijn typische verstrengeling van het politieke en het erotische.
