De naoorlogse kunstenaar Guy Vandenbranden behoort tot de tweede generatie Belgische constructivisten. Vanaf de jaren vijftig deed Vandenbranden afstand van het figuratieve en legde hij de focus op het geometrische abstractie - tot aan zijn overlijden in 2014. Tijdens deze periode sloot Vandenbranden zich aan bij de kunstenaarsgroep ‘Art Abstrait’ en experimenteerde hij met kleur en reliëf. Zo ontstonden in de jaren zestig zijn eerste abstracte sculpturen.

Guy Vandenbranden nam deel aan enkele tentoonstellingen georganiseerd door de kunstenaarsbeweging G58 in het Hessenhuis in Antwerpen. In 1960 richtte Vandenbranden met onder anderen Jef Verheyen, Vic Gentils, Guy Mees en Englebert van Anderlecht de Nieuwe Vlaamse School op.
