Richard Venlet

° 1964

Works in Brussels (), lives in Brussels (), born in Hamilton ().

The work of Brussels-based artist Richard Venlet is in many cases the fruit of his reflections on space, museum contexts and the influence of these on the viewer. Using a typically minimal idiom in his pieces, he pays attention to the respective space, its particular divisions, rhythms and limits and, in function of these factors, then changes them or creates new conditions for his own work or that of others.  Exhibiting implies both seeing and being seen, and it follows that viewers play an important role in his works: they are invited to participate - sometimes even literally, like with the ping-pong table or a chalk room where messages may be left behind to addressees of choice.
