Uri Tzaig

° 1965

Lives in Tel Aviv (IL), born in Qiryat Gat (IL).

Israeli artist Uri Tzaig first attracted major international attention in 1997, when he participated in both Catherine David’s influential Documenta X and the 48th Venice Biennial, where he was assigned the Israeli national pavilion. His preference for working with everyday materials based on everyday life experiences is of course profoundly shaped by the precarious nature of daily life in a country perpetually contested by and/or at war with its neighbouring countries, conditions under which the quotidian is quickly and easily transformed into the extraordinary.
