'Inspired by Chomsky, grammarian and political theorist, I wanted to show how the deep grammar of a street sentence could be labelled like a written sentence. Glueing human-sized grammatical symbols down a street, I framed bank, stores, people, police, illustrating that in a "deep" reading "people" was the direct object and not the subject they supposed, "commerce" was the verb qualified by the adverb "police", the subject an abstract noun "money" etc. I was astonished by the attitude of the Belgians; (...) my fellow citizens averted their gaze as from something faintly indecorous.' - Alain Arias-Misson
