"On Translation: Stand by" is one of the pieces of the project that collects color photographies that were taken in public places (museums, fairs, airports, public buildings, cinemas, shops, etc.) all over the world in wich people are waiting in queues, like frozen in time. The queues become a new contemporary urban ritual in this context and people turn into an actors limited to a passive role, a stereotypical image of modernity.
"On Translation" is an art serie about the concept of translation from a perspective that involves cultural, political and economic issues. Therefore, it is not only about a linguistic process, but also about the processes of handling and reversal taking place in our society. This long proccess has been worked on by the artist Antoni Muntadas since 1995.
