For the Twenty-Six by Twenty Six exhibition in the Vassar College of Art Gallery in Poughkeepsie, New York, Matta-Clark initially planned to build a sort of tree house where he would stay for three days. Ultimately it became a performance inspired by spring and fertility rituals. He built a structure, a kind of hammock, with ladders, ropes and towels in a big tree. At the end seeds were scattered so that an explosive spring could be expected for the following year.
